In conjunction with this year’s meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, World Heritage Watch, in partnership with Europa Rostra, Greenpeace Russia, the German Alliance for Nature Conversation, and the Forum Environment + Development, is organizing an international NGO Conference

The objectives of the conference are:

1. To assess the situation of selected World Heritage sites from the perspective of local actors
2. To point out ways of participation of civil society in the protection of world heritage sites
3. To develop a strategy to improve the involvement of civil society in the implementation of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention
4. To formulate modalities of participation of civil society organizations in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention
5. To take steps towards the formation of national and international civil society networks on World Heritage
6. To inform the German and international public about the implementation of the UNESCO World Heritage Convention from a civil society perspective
